I return home inspired and curious.” – Clarissa, Artist and Teacher "This work is valuable in my everyday life, and in my life as a teacher and artist. Thinking Body, Sensing Mind: Inner Journeys with NSDR - Non-Sleep Deep Rest
We lie down, get comfortable and relax into ourselves to experience “sensate presence” – a non-conceptual form of thinking with sensation. The concept of Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR), an essential ingredient in Somatic Expression for clearing our minds and regenerating our bodies, has been brought to public attention through the work of Stanford researcher Andrew Huberman (YouTube talk HERE) Each 75-minute session builds on the one prior, generating a repertoire of resources from the five basic somatic technologies - breath, vocalization, contact, movement and stillness - that can be called upon in daily life for self-regulation and satisfaction. These explorations are derived from the contemplative sitting practice of Embodied Mindfulness. (Embodied Mindfulness class dates here.) “To stop your mind does not mean to stop the activities of the mind. It means your mind pervades your whole body." - Shunryu Suzuki, Zen Master "Being mindful is not a matter of thinking more clearly about experience; it is the act of experiencing more clearly. Mindfulness simply demands that we pay close attention to the flow of experience in each moment." - Sam Harris |
